Over the next few days, you will notice your Google+ Page looking quite a bit different. There are a number of reasons Google is doing this. First and foremost, Google wants the Plus Pages to be consistent across all devices, large and small. These changes make the flow much more cohesive, no matter what device you are using.

Your Google+ Page can now have 1, 2 or 3 columns to it, with the emphasis being on larger sized media content in these columns. The layout is similar to a Pinterest page, and allows photos and videos to now span the full width of the Google+ stream. Your cover photo is now much more prominent as well. New interface animation has been added as well, so you have a lot of new things to watch as you do things inside your page.

Google has now also added hashtags to the content you share. This is going to help your content, (relevant to a subject matter), get ranked across the network. Google+ will assign these hashtags, but users can also add or remove tags.

Google+ has transformed Google Hangouts into its own stand-alone application. You can now incorporate text, photo-sharing and live video features in Hangouts. Photos taken with your mobile device will automatically back themselves up, as well as enhance themselves and get rid of low quality images.

So what does all this mean to you, the business owner? It means now, more than ever, you need to have an engaging Google+ profile, with great content that people can discover and share. Google takes your overall profile into account when determining relevance and, subsequently, rankings. Businesses that are involved with Google+, Facebook, blogging and the like will get better overall search results and traffic than businesses that aren’t involved.
