“A picture is worth a thousand words.” This proverb has never been so true. We’re approaching a new, visually-consuming era and Facebook Timeline, Pinterest, and Instagram are at the forefront. More than ever, brands are being forced to think and act more visually.

Beautifully-designed images can convey an idea or message without the need to even utter a word. The ability to speak and engage with your audience through imagery is key if you want to set yourself apart from your competitor.

You have to remember, the attention span of your audience member is short. If they can’t find the information they are seeking, they’ll click away and be gone forever. This is why you have to “show them, not tell them.” Through innovative design, you are inviting your audience to stay awhile, dig deeper, and return again and again.

Here are a few tips to make sure your imagery grabs your audiences’ eyeballs:

+ Be noticeable – the average person is exposed to about 3,000 images a day.  You have to stand out.

+ Be memorable – now that you’re being noticed, it’s not enough. You want them to remember you.

+ Be branded- most audiences see something funny but never know what product/service was actually being pushed. Make sure your imagery supports and reinforces your brand.

+ Be different- you’re better than your competitor right? So, show them.

+ Be motivating – Call forward an action. You don’t just want them to think about you, you want them to do something about it.

+ Be integrated – make sure your imagery is consistent throughout all mediums: Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, webpage, etc.
