PINNING Is In!

Posted on September 7, 2012 in Incredible Marketing News, Branding, SEM, Social Media

A new social network is hitting the market by storm! Pinterest, currently a free service, allows its users to PIN and share their favorite pictures to virtual pinboards. Users can organize these boards by niches and also follow other users’ boards.

Since its launch in 2009, Pinterest has experienced a rapid growth. According to statistics released by ComScore in February 2012, Pinterest had more than 10 million monthly unique visitors and is now the third most popular social networking site behind Facebook and Twitter.

Get to know the pinners:

  • Pinterest users are 10% more likely to purchase something
  • 37% of users earn between $25k-$50k, 46% earn $50k or more
  • 50% of users are from the U.S.
  • 60% of its users are female
  • 97% are 18+ years old

WIN with your PIN

Spend the time

Like any social network, and even more with this demographic, Pinterest requires an investment in time. Make sure all your pictures are visually captivating, include hashtags with searchable keywords (#bikini #body #liposuction) and most importantly, a link back to your website so that customers can find you and your business

Be relatable

This tip might seem obvious, but Pinterest caters to those looking for beauty, clothes, recipes, and all things girly! If your company sells power tools, you might not be a good fit.

Feed your board

Existing social networks have an advantage: they already have a vast number of users. So cross-promote your Pinterest account via all social networking sites. Make sure to include an icon on your website that will directly take your customers to your page.

Don’t just promote yourself

Post news and tidbits that are relevant to your company and industry. Users are not dumb. They’re savvy enough to spot a board that is too self-serving and only posting about products or services about themselves.

Find the big fish and stalk them

One of the best ways to bring attention to your company is to start following the big names and companies on Pinterest. When you follow popular accounts, and they follow you back, other users get the message and follow the leader. Consider a game of tag- you’re IT!

 Get IN on the Pinning

Businesses, particularly in the medical field are jumping on fast! More than ever, medical practices are recognizing that their direct audience is on Pinterest actively looking for skin, beauty, and workout tips. What better way to reach them by where they’re already comfortable?
